We would like to say a big welcome to all our new families and some new members of staff. We would also like to wish all our school leavers lots of luck at big school we will all miss you and hope you will come back to visit us.

We are now a couple of weeks into our Autumn term and are enjoying getting to know our new children and also finding out what everyone has been doing over the Summer.  It has been all change here at Holly Corner with the extension of our daily hours (8am – 6pm) and we are all enjoying the delicious food now being served. The children and staff have been having dinners including yummy roast dinners, pasta bolognese, lamb hot pot and curries. The children have been adapting well to the changes and this is also supporting all the children’s independence skills with using cutlery and serving themselves. The children have also been learning how to clear their plates and place the cutlery in the bowl ready to be washed.

We are planning lots of fun activities over the Autumn term. The whole nursery will be celebrating Harvest Festival and we will be holding a collection, which we are hoping to give to Prettygate Baptist Church. We will also be enjoying making bread and looking at the seasonal changes.

In Badgers, the children have been enjoying playing with the new equipment such as the animal tepee, rocking unicorn and the musical sea creatures. The staff are welcoming and settling in our youngest members of Holly Corner and will be introducing them to lots of messy and sensory play along with construction activities including using the digger’s in messy gloop and building towers. This will give the children the opportunity to use fine motor skills and encourage lots of new words.

In Hedgehogs the children have already enjoyed playdough day and there are more fun days planned, such as a dress up day. We will be celebrating the children’s interests and developing lots of fun activities based around these interests.

Throughout the month of October we will be embracing The Big Draw (National drawing/mark making month) the children will be exploring a variety of ways to create marks and patterns. We have Cape Day coming up in November along with Outdoor Classroom Day which Hedgehogs children will be taking part in.

Squirrels children have already been taking part in activities such as Playdough Day using a variety tools to support their fine motor skills and testing the children’s senses with adding different smells and textures. The children held a 'hand washing day' on Tuesday 15th September and talked about hygiene and how we wash our hands and how germs are spread.

In November it is 'Sugar Awareness Week' so we want to discuss being healthy with the children and we will be making some healthy snacks. We will also be joining in with ‘Nursery Rhyme week’ and ‘Road safety week’ please look out for information via email.  In December we will be getting excited for Christmas with lots of festive activities planned.
