Latest Play Room News
The Summer Term is in full swing and we would like to welcome all the new families to Holly Corner.
There have been lots of exciting activities already this term. All the rooms enjoyed participating in National Gardening Week. We have planted flowers and sown seeds kindly donated by our Holly Corner families with help from some green-fingered relatives…thank you!! This has been a great opportunity for the children to learn about the environment and how things grow and what plants need to thrive. The children explored the different textures of the soil and plants whilst observing the different patterns on the seeds. We look forward to taking care of them and watching them grow over the coming months.
The whole nursery enjoyed participating in a Zoo day. The children had lots of fun dressing up as animals whilst the key workers were the zookeepers, claiming their zoo ticket at the door. Lots of fun learning activities were provided such as ‘feed the monkey’ where the children practiced their hand eye and gross motor throwing skills feeding the monkey with bananas.
In Badgers the children have been exploring ‘The Tiger Who Came To Tea’ and ‘Dear Zoo’ story sacks that has led on to lovely role playing with their own teacups and exploring the animals. Gross motor activities such as the soft play and the indoor parachute has been a hit with the children and provided a great opportunity for the children use their bodies to balance and really use their arms to move the parachute fast and slow. Over the next few weeks the children will be exploring different sensory activities such as gloop and ice play, large art using vehicles, balls and other objects and going on a bug hunt.
In Hedgehogs they held a coloured theme week where the children can dress up in the colour of the day and explore a variety of resources all colour themed for that day. This initially helped the children really test their knowledge of colours and learn new ones. The children participated alongside Squirrels room in ‘Outdoor Classroom Day’ where activities surrounding all 7 areas of learning were enjoyed outdoors including making banana cakes and having outdoor picnics for meal times. Over the next few weeks Hedgehogs will explore a ‘Healthy Eating Week’ and we are really looking forward to a Fire Fighters visit with their fire engine!
In Squirrels in addition to the ‘Outdoor Classroom Day’ and ‘Zoo Day’ they have enjoyed learning lots during ‘Maths Week’ carrying out a car survey, measuring ingredients when baking, exercising by numbers on a dice and timing how quickly it takes to build a wall. Over the next few weeks the children will be participating in ‘Healthy Eating Week’ also and taking part in ‘Armed Forces Day’ alongside continuing to prepare the children to be ‘school ready’ with PE and show and tell sessions.
