The children in Badgers have been getting involved in sensory and messy play. The children have helped to make play dough and kinetic sand using measuring cups and jugs to pour the ingredients into the bowl.  They all took turns in stirring the mixture together using a wooden spoon. The children have been introduced to song box time, where they sit in a small group and choose a prop from the box which represents a nursery rhyme and they can then join in with singing and doing actions for a short period of time.  The children have enjoyed spending time in the garden experiencing sand, water and soil.

Hedgehogs have been working hard to develop their independence skills.   They have been pouring their own drinks, setting up for mealtimes and learning to dress themselves. The children have been experiencing new messy play activities, enjoying manipulating various different textures and materials such as: ‘puffy paint’.  The children will be discovering the seasons and what happens during these changes.  They will also be working on creating a sensory/calming area and display to encourage learning about emotions and self-regulation. The children will be creating pieces of art to help with this.

Squirrels have enjoyed lots of different celebrations so far this year, including Chinese New year where they acted out the animal race in the garden and explored lots of rice and noodle play.   We held our own Olympics where children took part in lots of active games.  The children particularly enjoyed celebrating Australia day, measuring the different animals and comparing their heights to their own.  National Flag of Canada Day was also lots of fun as the children created their own Canadian flag with handprints.    They learnt how maple syrup is made and were able to taste some too.  For storytelling week the children enjoyed lots of activities themed around different stories and even wrote our own story.  They made gingerbread for ‘The Gingerbread Man’ and explored a Gruffalo Crumble tuff tray and went on a bear hunt in the garden for ‘We’re Going On A Bear Hunt.’  For the ‘Tiger Who Came To Tea’ we all enjoyed tea parties and picnics and explored colours and colour mixing for Elmer.
